What happens if a MedTech product meets bad UX design?

When it comes to health issues, there's often no time for complaints. Instead, users turn to workarounds or go straight to the competition.

The documentation is going back to paper.

Your product is used officially but circumvented unofficially. In the usage data, this looks like adoption, but it’s actually a silent harbinger of replacement.

Onboarding is becoming a time-consuming, ongoing task.

If the interface isn't intuitive and self-explanatory, your Customer Success team steps in...and has to do so all over again with every new setup.

Accessibility is being addressed through retrofitting.

The Accessibility Enhancement Act has been in effect since 2025. If your product falls under its scope, retrofitting it will be more expensive than planning for accessibility from the outset and will unnecessarily tie up resources that could be used for your actual roadmap.

The sales department explains rather than sells.

If the pitch starts by having to explain (and, in the worst case, even defend) how the product works, the conversation shifts away from its clinical benefits.

What you'll gain from working with us

Three results you can use to measure our performance.

01

A product that can be used without training

02

Accessibility built In from the start

We design in accordance with WCAG and with the requirements of the BFSG in mind. Contrast, focus guidance, screen reader semantics, and keyboard accessibility are all part of the standard we deliver on every project.

03

Decisions your team moves forward with

We’ll provide you with deliverable artifacts in the form of components, flows, and clearly documented decisions. This way, you’ll continue to benefit from our UX expertise even after our collaboration ends.

From a hypothesis to a sound decision in three steps

The first step already yields useful results.

1

Analysis: Where Is your product losing users?

UX audit, user interviews with healthcare professionals and patients, journey mapping. Result: a prioritized list of the points where the user experience actually falls short.

Result: Prioritized List of Actions

2

Design: Solutions You Can Test

Wireframes and clickable prototypes instead of concept slides. You can give stakeholders and users something tangible to work with before the development budget is committed.

Result: Clickable prototypes

3

Validation & Handover: Tested with Real Users

Usability testing with the actual target audience, accessibility testing, followed by handoff to your developers as documented components.

Result: Ready-to-use designs for devs

The Foundation for Success

How much our UX services cost

We work in work packages with fixed scope, fixed deadlines, and a fixed price. You know in advance what to budget for.

Projects typically start at €5,000. For projects below that amount, we honestly recommend an experienced freelancer. For smaller budgets, this is usually the better solution for you.

You pay per work package. Before each package, we work with you to define what will be delivered, by when, and at what price. Of course, you can stop after any package without leaving anything half-finished.

Common questions

We don't have an in-house design team. Will it still work?

This is typically the case with our medtech clients. That’s exactly what the UX Action Kit is for: actionable tasks for your development team instead of concept documents that no one translates.

Do you also design software for devices, or just digital products?

Our focus is on digital products such as web apps, SaaS platforms, dashboards, and apps for patients and healthcare professionals. Displays and interfaces for medical devices (hardware) are not part of our focus.

Are you familiar with the regulatory framework in the healthcare sector?

In terms of design, we adhere to the accessibility requirements set forth by WCAG and BFSG, and we have experience collaborating with medical facilities.

How long does a project take?

A focused format, such as an audit or design sprint, delivers results within a few weeks. Product support spans multiple releases. After the initial consultation, you’ll receive a time estimate.

Can you conduct tests with qualified personnel? It's difficult for us to gain access.

We have experience conducting tests in medical settings and tailor our approach to what is feasible in your environment: short sessions, observation during procedures, and asynchronous formats. Where access is limited, we adapt our methodology accordingly.

How is data protection and patient data being handled?

In our research and testing activities, we never use actual patient data; instead, we use anonymized or synthetic data. We establish data processing agreements and NDAs before the project begins.

How much does it cost to get started?

Projects start at €5,000. The exact scope depends on user groups, regulatory requirements, and the depth of testing, which we’ll clarify during the free initial consultation.

What happens during the free initial consultation?

A 60-minute session with our co-founder Victoria, during which we’ll take a look at your product and your current situation. You’ll walk away with an honest assessment of your biggest UX levers, concrete first steps (even if we don’t end up working together), and an estimate of the scale of your project.
